About
Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIMTE), established in 2004 by CAS and the Zhejiang Provincial and Ningbo Municipal governments, focuses on materials technology, new energy, advanced manufacturing, and biomedical engineering, building a full-chain innovation system from basic research to industrialization. It currently has over 960 employees, including 8 academicians and 7 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, has undertaken over 7,300 research projects, with materials science ranking in the top 1‰ globally and over 4,100 authorized patents. The Laser Extreme Manufacturing Research Center, established in June 2022 under NIMTE, has built a key provincial laboratory, led over 20 national-level projects, with approximately 400 million RMB in active research funding. The center focuses on high-efficiency laser processing of difficult-to-machine materials and structures, cultivates frontier directions like multi-material additive manufacturing, and is committed to breaking through core technologies such as kilowatt-level femtosecond laser processing, establishing a demonstrative laser manufacturing line for transformative structures in difficult-to-machine materials to serve major national strategic needs.
